Summary: It's a kids game
Comment: Seriously, fun if you didn't play Gex or any other 3-d mario style game that came out over 13 years ago. The only good memorable thing about Okami is that you are a wolf in a world of artsy cell shaded graphics. Probably cool for parties, but this one is really made for the little ones. Enjoy!

Comment: Okami is about a god being reborn but lost its abilities and has to recover them in order to combat evil successfully. The gameplay was good, sound was great but the characters do not have real voiceovers, their voices sound like mumblings, graphics was great, and story was great. Okami is a fun and weird game that should not be missed.

Comment: If you're looking for innovative gaming that will likely never look or feel dated, this is probably the best of the best. It is as close to poetry as you'll find in the video game world. Perhaps not accessible and likely to move every gamer. But then, the best games usually are. It would really be a shame to let yourself miss out on this game.

Summary: Classic, must-have PlayStation title
Comment: Really, what Zelda is to the Nintendo platforms, Okami is to PlayStation. The underlying mechanics in Okami are reminiscent of a Zelda-type game: real-time action, item collection, puzzle-solving, very large world to discover. Also, the Celestial Brush mechanic is very unique and will keep you on the lookout for more things to discover.

If there is any shortfall, it is that some gamers may not like the way the character dialogue is handled. The characters emote in sort of a fake jibberish while their actual dialogue is shown as on-screen text. While this does work well in the context of Okami's surreal, otherworldly atmosphere, I can see how some gamers might be turned off by it.

But really, if you own a PS2 or a backward compatible PS3, you owe it to yourself to check out this title. The PlayStation platform is defined by the sheer variety in its game library, and Okami a perfect example. The art design and direction is arguably the best in any video game--of any generation (while it may be jarring at first, before long you'll become addicted to the gorgeous world within), the music and sound are top notch, and the gameplay, while owing a bit to Zelda, is totally solid.

As of now, Amazon has the game listed for [...]. For a game of Okami's quality and length (30-40 hours for a dedicated run, but if you really explore everything, the number can go way up), it's a fantastic deal.

For those debating a Wii vs. PS2 version: The Wii version does support widescreen displays. The graphics have not been recreated or changed for the Wii version, but the Wii's graphics processing does result in a slightly different render, as the game uses some novel filters to achieve its look. The result seems to be that the colors on the Wii version are a bit more saturated. However, I will note that the PS2 version includes a option to change between a "Standard" display and an "LCD" display, the latter (non-default) option seems to provide a slightly sharper image with a tad more color saturation. But the overall difference is negligible. One would think that the Wii controls would lend themselves perfectly to the game, but various game review sites have noted that the Wiimote can be rather unforgiving when the player tries to use the Celestial Brush techniques, whereas the DualShock controls (at least for me) work quite well after you pass the modest learning curve.

The game is rated "T" for Teen. In terms of what may be objectionable to some: the violence is very stylized and cartoony. The ESRB flag on the package mentions "Blood and Gore," but this is somewhat dubious. The action is generally very clean, but in some of the larger boss battles, you might see instances where some monsters expel smoke or liquid or other such effect as they go down, but again this is much more just presentation and style at work than anything gratuitous. There are alcohol references abound, and Japanese sake often serves as a sort of MacGuffin to drive the story as one the main non-player characters (NPCs) you meet is the master sake brewer in the game's world. The PG-13 aspect mostly involves Amaterasu's companion, Issun, and his incessant flirting with virtually all of the game's female NPCs. While it is not malicious behavior, Issun does comment about the ladies' physical assets from time to time. Also, there is some scatological humor, as the player character--a wolf--can gain some fire-hydrant-style attacks, depending on your play style. All these aspects are approached in a fun way and are not used to shock or titillate.

Overall, Okami is among the elite of PlayStation 2 titles. Given the quality and length of the experience, it's a no-brainer recommendation, particularly at its modest price point.

Comment: There is so much about Okami to like! i have never played a game so original before in my life. it has to be the most underrated game this century!

Okami is about the Sun goddess Ameratsu Okami who takes the form of a wolf and her little woodsprite companion issun. 100 years ago Okami known back then as Shirainu killed a evil monster called Orochi (Mountain of Darkness) by means of a warrior named Negi. Ameratsu died in the fight and in honor of her and Negi they built a monument in honor of them. Centuries later orochis evil is brought upon the world again and Okami is resurracted to battle her foe once again.

The story is actually more complex than how I summarized it. There are tons of side quest, missions, secrets in Okami. its replay value is extreme;y broad because theres so many things to do and find. I still haven't beat it 100% because of the stray beads and i'm always preoccupied doing one of the most addicting things in video game history sinse pickpocketing in Sly cooper...Fishing. No words can describe how addicting fishing is in Okami. in most games its boring, but in Okami its executed in such a way that you can't stop. Fishing is also one of the best ways to earn money for supplies and new fighting techniques.

Combat in okami is fun and fastpaced. Many enemies in the game require some level of strategy to defeat. You can't just hack and slash expecially later when enemies are stronger. The boss battles are huge and epic. every boss is unique and strategic. If you defeat an enemy in a cool way or buy 2 techniques that bring this on they drop a Demon fang that you exchange for goods and sometimes required items.

The world is ginormous! After Orochi peaple make the mistake of thinking they beat the game, but really theres more story to be found. just as a warning alot of the plot and stories in Okami are based off Japenese Mythology, but thats what makes it so interesting. One in particular is a story involving a box that was given to an old man as a gift from a dragon palace, but yall can see that for yourselves.

One of the biggest highlight of Okami though are the brush techniques. they are wonderful. there are actually more techniques and moves you can use that the game don't tell you about. Most you find doing side quest, but there are some that are found in secret places.

The absolute greatest thing and everyone knows this is the graphics and music. Theres no game out there like this. Okami is made with beutiful japenese art. the music is also very Japenese and memorable. It is absolutely breathtaking expecially when you clean the earth. I think the PS2 version does the graphics better than the Wii. I hear peaple dote on the realistic graphics of the Xbox and PS3 but it can't compare to how breathtaking Okami is. The art style and music lead to some scary moments too. In evil or bad spots in the game the music can get extremely ominous. The creepiest and scariest area in the game for me is the ghost ship. The art and erie music had me looking behind my shoulder and enemies that I ain't gonna describe for spoiler reasons appeared out of nowhere and scared the living daylights out of me. Think the Grudge meets Silent Hill XD Don't get me started on Mr. and Mrs. Cutter (shivers)

I know peaple complain that it too easy, but this is forgiven by how much this game offers. I admit though I did die once near the end of the game fighting these 9 dogs, but thats another story and I didn't get a game over because of my astral pouch.

This review barely touches everything in this game. Okami is one of the greatest and revolutionary video games this century. I've hoped to find more games made with unque graphics like Okami, but I can never find anyXD The only game that comes close is Mini Ninjas for the Wii (fun game), but even it can't compare to Okami. I love it so much that I'm rebuying it for the Wii and getting its DS sequal.
