Summary: Amazing 2d game even in today's standards
Comment: This game offers a variety of gameplay and never gets repetitive. You WILL keep going to finish the game. The graphics are awesome because this was the first or one of the first games on the snes to use Pre-rendered graphics. That means that the graphics aren't generated on the spot. The graphics are still spectacular even in today's standards. The story behind this is K-Rool took your banannas and you want them backs so you chase him.

Summary: Graphics with no game play
Comment: This game is horribly frustrating and not very fun. The levels are poorly designed and boring throughout. The graphics were great when it was released and they still look pretty good now. If you are looking for a fun platform game buy Super Mario World 1 or 2 instead. The game play just does not hold up to other snes platforming classics.

Summary: Matt
Comment: This is a game I first played at my friend's house in about late 1994 when it first came out. I thought the graphics were good for the time and better than the graphics for the next two sequels, but what bothered me the most is it was too linear. You could look for secret rooms and bananas but nothing else. However, I find this to be one of my all-time favorites, if just for the nostalgic factor.

Summary: Interesting attempt at a 3D game.
Comment: When reading the box and manual, they keep pushing the idea of a 3D game. The characters are more or less in 3 dimensions, as well as items in the game. The background moves at a different speed than the pathways adding to the illusion.

The game is fun, challenging, and entertaining. Though there is a lack of points to be earned, killing all the enemies gain you nothing but the pleasure of the "bong" sound. Extra lives are in the form of balloons and collecting 100 bananas. The ability to switch between Donky(heavy attacks) and Diddy(high jumps) on the fly adds to level complexity. If you can find them you can ride an ostrich, rhino, or a swordfish that help with their special abilities.

Summary: An epic for its time that still stands up today
Comment: Donkey Kong Country looked beautiful and way ahead of its time in terms of graphics and animation. This graphical improvement didn't just make the game look pretty though. It made it a lot more fun because the complex animations allowed for some hilarious expressions on the part of the characters during certain situations in the game. This of course carried over into the following two sequels, but for the year this game came out it looked and played beautifully.

I've said this before about other games, but do not underestimate this game. There are stages in this game that might make you tear your hair out. The biggest reason for this is that saving can be a real chore. Unlike something like Super Mario World you'll really need to save up your lives. If you can't you'll end up way back to where you last saved. This game is not a cake walk. So it's probably not the best game for novices, but a great challenge for any gamer who's looking for retro SNES greatness.
